The year is 1945, a time that marked the end of a global conflict and the beginning of a new era with booming possibilities. Corporations and businesses are gearing up to take advantage of the burgeoning U.S. economy. Determined to reap the benefits of this new paradigm by pooling their resources, a group of independent lumberyard owners in Montana decided to form a fellowship to address the unmet needs pertaining to fasteners. This cooperative alliance gave birth to a new buying organization- Western Builders Supply.

Rebranded as Big Timber Fasteners (BTF), the company is now a wholesale supplier of professional-grade structural fasteners, catering mainly to independently owned building material dealers. Its gamut of specialty construction screws and bits manufactured in ISO-9002- compliant mills undergo stringent third-party quality testing before reaching customers.

“We have products designed to meet any structural, environmental or professional demands,” says Benjamin Case, National Sales Manager of BTF.

The cutting-edge design and engineering excellence owes a great deal to the financial might of its parent company, Marmon Holdings, a Berkshire Hathaway company. This allows the company to remain innovative and proactive, rapidly adjusting to market shifts and customer requirements.

Its commitment to versatility is reflected in BTF’s product lineup. The company’s pipeline consists of interior-multipurpose wood screws, structural lag fasteners, drill points and specialty bits.

These products have high tensile and shear strength, making them ideal for applications like large timbers, railway trestles, trusses and home constructions. They do not require pre-drilling in most applications, offering speed and ease of use.

Professional-grade fasteners are susceptible to different exposure conditions, ranging from corrosive chemicals to marine winds. To this end, the company’s fasteners are equipped with high-grade coatings that ensure the longevity of the screws regardless of their deployment conditions.

Despite the benefits, customers need to be careful in product selection. Fasteners, after all, are structural components created with intended use cases and tolerance limitations. A lack of knowledge regarding these might cause the customer to select an inappropriate one, leading to issues down the line.

Case explains the potential problems of incorrect use, “Not choosing the right fastener or using a fastener incorrectly can, at best, make for a frustrating product experience and, at worst, be a major safety issue.”

BTF combats this general lack of awareness regarding the selection and use of appropriate fasteners through a series of educational initiatives like the Drill Down videos, which explain the features and benefits of each of its screw categories. The company is also increasing the amount of in-person fastener training it provides clients’ sales associates and is rolling out short fastener guides called cheat sheets as a reference to help answer the questions of the end customers.

Client-centricity is at the core of BTF’s business ethos. The company takes time to listen to feedback from industry professionals and incorporates them in its designs to ensure best-in-class products. This commitment to go the extra mile for clients distinguishes it from the competition.

The company’s dedication to bringing high-quality, lab-tested, field-tested, and third-party-certified products on demand has put it at the forefront of the fastener manufacturing race. Even at the summit, BTF strives to push forward and innovate, determined to improve the lives of its clients.
