As a field service technician at Carbon Robotics, I observed firsthand opportunities to enhance the quality of machines supplied by our contract manufacturer prior to bringing manufacturing in-house. While the engineering designs generally met compliance standards, we identified some critical deliverables that required focused attention.

One significant milestone in our manufacturing journey was the establishment of our clean room. Instead of investing $60,000 to $100,000 in a conventional clean room, we carefully assessed our requirements and opted for a modest 18-by-8-foot clean room. This space, equipped with essential tooling and filtration systems, was completed for just $20,000, resulting in significant cost savings without compromising functionality or quality.
I’ve helped establish production for the LaserWeeder G2, our highly sophisticated and complex agricultural machine, in Richland, Washington, and opened an additional assembly line and facility in the Netherlands to support our international customers.

Last December, we built our first LaserWeeder G2 in a modest 7,400-square-foot space where we were manufacturing two machines at once. Since then, our team has nearly tripled in size, and we are currently establishing our fourth manufacturing facility.
