Can you describe your professional journey and your current role at Cummins in Latin America?
My career has spanned various domains, including legal, labor relations, talent, HR management and talent acquisition, each enriching my experience. At Cummins, I focus on leveraging diverse talent with my team to foster innovation and business success. We are at the forefront of adopting AI in our recruitment processes, which promises to further enhance our diversity and efficiency.
AI seems to be a significant focus currently. How are you approaching this integration?
We are currently exploring AI’s potential. Although not fully implemented yet, our insights are promising. Our approach is one of optimism, we are testing, learning and adapting AI tools in the organization to align even further our processes and practices with our core values of diversity, equity and inclusion while evaluating their impact in increasing the efficiency of the organization.
With your extensive HR experience, how do you see AI transforming talent acquisition in Latin America?
AI is revolutionizing talent acquisition aiming to increase speed, efficiency and inclusivity. In the short term we would be able to quickly navigate through large data sets to identify the best candidates and ensure the recruitment process minimizes bias. AI also supports continuous learning and development, which is crucial for professional growth and retention in the region.
What efficiency gains does AI bring to the recruitment process?
We expect AI to streamline time-consuming tasks like resume screening and initial candidate outreach. This automation frees recruiters to focus more on strategic aspects such as candidate engagement and improving the overall candidate and hiring manager experience key factors in the competitive job market.
What challenges and opportunities do you foresee with the adoption of AI in recruitment in Latin America?
Latin America’s diverse cultural landscape presents unique challenges and opportunities for AI in recruitment. The challenge is to tailor AI to reflect this diversity and reduce biases. The opportunity lies in accessing untapped talent pools and streamlining hiring processes to create a more inclusive workplace reflective of the society we serve.
AI-driven platforms can streamline the candidate sourcing process. They extend beyond traditional job boards to scout passive candidates who may not actively seek new opportunities but are open to the right offer. In Latin America's diverse talent pool, this means reaching candidates in remote or underrepresented communities, thus promoting inclusivity while tapping into a broader range of skills and experiences.
As a leader in recruitment and inclusion, particularly for people with disabilities, how do you see AI impacting this area?
AI holds transformative potential in making recruitment processes more unbiased and focused on skills and competencies, ensuring that all candidates, including those with disabilities, are assessed fairly and equitably. This level of objectivity enhances the ability to discover and engage talented individuals based on their potential, which contributes significantly to building a diverse and competent workforce.
What advice would you give to other HR leaders in Latin America looking to integrate AI into their talent acquisition strategies?
Embrace AI thoughtfully. Understand the technology and its impact on inclusivity. Ensure AI strategies align with your business goals and the unique culture of the region, keeping in mind that AI is meant to augment our capabilities, not replace the essential human element in our work.
Incorporating AI into HR practices offers a transformative opportunity to redefine HR, and in particular talent acquisition, balancing diversity and efficiency to build a more robust, dynamic, and inclusive workforce. Latin America presents an exciting opportunity to revolutionize the way companies approach talent acquisition—balancing the scales of diversity and efficiency to create more robust, dynamic and inclusive workplaces. As such, embracing AI is not just about staying ahead in the recruitment game; it's about building a future-proof workforce that is diverse, skilled and ready to meet the challenges of tomorrow.
