Green sand casting
The name green stands for the presence of moisture content in the sand, and they are generally used in the mass production of the parts. The sand molds are used once and are broken to collect the roughcasting samples, mainly comprised of silica, chromite sand, zircon sand, bentonite clay, and water. The green sand casting process is highly economical and inexpensive in its production when operated in low volumes and does not require high-end technical investment and factory facilities. They are suitable for medium and high-volume casting orders and allow any alloy to be poured into the mold to generate diverse patterns and designs.
Furan resin sand coating
The Furan resin sand coating process utilizes catalysts, binders, and mixers In blending together and is made to harden over time by the chemical reactions induced within the structure. The initial rough casting obtained has a smooth surface finish with high precision cuts generally consisting of silica, furan resin, and nitrogenous bases. Furan resins present in the structure play the most important part as they help in the binding process and are a polymer compound of furfrylacohol , formaldehyde, water, and urea. Furan resins are found to have tight tolerance and high precision in addition to smooth surface finishes. Casting defects such as sand holes, air holes, and shrinkages are reduced in the process and are capable of developing small-scale to large-scale structures accordingly to the need.
Lost foam casting
The process is similar to the investment casting technique and characterized by the presence of wax rather than the use of wax. The patterns used in the process are non-reusable as they tend to evaporate upon their initial usage. They are known for the presence of flexible designs and casting of complex designs with high precision and tight tolerance and have got a meager processing time as well. However, the process is comparatively more expensive than the popularly used methods and can become highly nonprofitable in carrying out small-scale orders.
