Choose the best hot-melt adhesive for your needs after carefully considering all of the above properties. Then, to ensure a successful bond, take the following steps:
Control the temperature. Ascertain that the hot-melt temperature is within the ideal ranges to promote proper melting, prevent charring, and provide adequate surface tension and wetting. Also, make sure the ambient temperature is within the recommended range to keep the adhesive in a liquid state for the maximum amount of time.
Ensure that the substrate and hot melt are free of contaminants. A dusty or oily substrate can wreak havoc on the bond. Contaminants in hot-melt adhesive can also degrade adhesive performance and appearance. Therefore, ensure that all metal parts and substrates are thoroughly cleaned with a cleaner such as Melt-O-Clean.
Use the correct amount of adhesive. Depending on the end application, various amounts of adhesive may be required for successful bonding. To achieve the necessary surface area, use a hot-melt adhesive.
Take note of the start and end times. The ideal open and set times of various hot-melt adhesives vary. To achieve the best bond, pay close attention to each.
Put some force on it. Apply pressure to the substrate if required for the type of hot-melt adhesive and application. However, many hot-melt adhesives, such as Technomelt Supra 106M and Technomelt 250A, do not require pressure to form a strong bond.
