The capabilities of SLM Solutions came to the fore when it facilitated the 3D printing of the Bugatti Active Heat Shield to the engine’s electric pump in the Bugatti Chiron. The product needed a precise layer thickness of 60 micrometers and the application of Aluminum AlSi10Mg. SLM Solutions used the SLM 280 Twin machine to manufacture the product. The complex geometry was produced at lower costs than with traditional methods. This part provides integrated water-cooling channels that help protect the engine’s electric pump from heat. The system has been installed in every Bugatti Chiron since the first vehicle was delivered from the Molsheim factory.
