Payman Farrokhyar, PresidentTotal-Western started its journey in refineries, providing maintenance and construction services. Today, the company offers comprehensive, end-to-end services to the wider industrial sector, including aerospace, chemical, petrochemical, power generation, and manufacturing industries to life sciences and renewables, with sustainability as a constant focus.
A crucial factor that makes Total-Western stand out is its capability to provide complete turnkey solutions in-house. Its logo perfectly represents this idea–four off-center rings highlighting all the services it offers, including engineering, construction, operations, and maintenance. It also emphasizes that clients don’t need to use every service; support is tailored for them individually.
The team walks clients through every step, depending on the stage their project is in. For an entrepreneurial company founder with a bold idea, our support begins from when they first go to market for fundraising, on through navigating the complex processes of sorting feedstock agreements, to getting permits in the engineering process, understanding a plot plan, and everything in between. From prototype to production, Total-Western’s solutionoriented approach makes it a trusted partner.
It’s not just what Total-Western delivers that makes clients turn into repeat clients. It is how and why they do what they do, and at the root of it is their core values. High expectations when it comes to safety have always been a part of Total-Western’s core values. It has implemented the Personal Accountability System Service (PASS) Program that is built on the principles of safety, quality, cost-effectiveness, and personal accountability.
Apart from safety, the company goes the extra mile to ensure clients get the best outcomes. This philosophy was put into action recently when the team was called in to assist a major power plant that was pivoting from coal to natural gas. While they were not hired as engineers on the job, the team took it upon themselves to walk the job site and discovered some significant concerns around safety.
Total-Western presented recommendations to the plant owner and their engineer, which were well-received. Not only did these changes make the job site safer, but they also shaved seven days off the job schedule, which is extremely important in a power plant.
As part of a company that has been in the industry for 75 years, we are big enough to make an impact but nimble enough to adapt. This brings a different approach to how we work with our clients
Payman says, “As part of a company that has been in the industry for 75 years, we are big enough to make an impact but nimble enough to adapt. This brings a different approach to how we work with our clients. We can execute projects faster and are more flexible in helping our clients achieve what they need to do.”
Total-Western acquired renowned full-service engineering firm Roberts Engineering in 2022 to add highly skilled engineers to its team, and now carries out its services almost entirely in-house. However, the team is never hesitant to call on partnering companies to ensure clients get the best value.
In the upcoming months, Total-Western is working toward using client data for analysis to carry out predictive maintenance and take things to the next level. The ability to extend equipment lifetime and reduce downtime by planning for outages and maintenance will be a game-changer in the industry, and supports the company vision to build and maintain a successful and sustainable future.
